"When We Dead Awaken: Writing as Re-Vision"

I can definently hear Rich's voice and "opinions". I was still a little bothered never-the-less. I don't agree with her comment on page 546. "But to be a female human being trying to fulfill traditional female functions in a traditional way is in direct conflict with the subversive function of the imagination."Even though she stated (some what) to the contrary, I really felt that she believes that being apart from all aspects of the "evil man" and being lesbian is the only way to write and think well. HOGWASH!

I really didn't agree with some of the things she said as well in her essay. One of the biggest things I had a problem with in her essay is she said she failed as a poet and as a woman. Okay, first of all, she has a husband (don't know how wonderful he is - never really said) AND she just had her 3rd (I think - maybe it was her second - don't have the book in front of me right now) child. Okay, that bothers me because there are people out there that want to start a family and can't even find the right man/woman to marry. And second of all, hello - 3 children? There are some women out there who are infertile, or who aren't, but still are unable to conceive even one child. And the other issue that I had a problem with is she sai she failed as a poet - HELLO!!!! She had just published her 2nd book - what more does this woman want????!!!! I'm not saying she has it ALL, but she's got a lot of what I want and don't have yet. PLUS, she's got the freedom to write - no job to worry about going to every day or anything. It just goes to show that no matter what some women have, they will NEVER be happy!

We seem to be more apprecaitive of things that we don't have, and take for granted the things we do. Thanks for your honest feedback.
